Welcome to the new WinPCD forum!

Post by dlr » Fri Mar 22, 2013 7:06 pm

Meniscus Audio has kindly provided this forum for the recently released Windows Passive Crossover Designer (WinPCD), the Windows version of Jeff Bagby's popular Excel spreadsheet, PCD.

WinPCD is a Windows application that runs on the .NET 4.0 framework. It should run without issue on Windows XP Service Pack 3 and Windows 7. It may run on Windows 8, but that has not been tested.

WinPCD v1.000 will open as a full window on a 1280 x 1024 screen. The next version has some significant changes to the user interface that should make it more useful on smaller screens as found on laptops and those PCs with more than one monitor.

The latest information with a link to the download page can be found at the link below.

I hope you'll try it out and let us know what you think, what you like and what you don't like.

This is great news. I use Excel 2000 and always had "issues" trying to make PCD work as it should. I am looking forward to trying the new version.

When this is fully functional and public release ready, it will represent one of the final stages of DIY speaker building entering the modern age. I love the spreadsheet driven design approach, but I like the idea of a standalone app even more.

Dave, just wanted you to know that I like what I see coming down the pipe. Keep up the good work!

Thanks, Johnny. I hope to have a new release ready in the near future. It relates to the user interface. This shouldn't change often, so the first goal is to get this stable before moving to new functionality. User feedback indicates that the box part is desired more than things like additional crossover types, although I have an idea on a new graph that I would expect to be helpful and won't take a great deal of time.

A newer version is available. I call it v1.1, but didn't start a new thread for it. Info on it can be found in the v1.0 thread. The changes are primarily in the user interface with additional screens and some bug fixes.

I'm looking forward to trying this out. I mainly downloaded WinPCD to try and use it to find the relative off-set of two drivers using dlr's (and Jeff's) method of making 3 measurements blah blah blah. Anyone try this yet in WinPCD?
Also, I'm using win8 so we'll see if all works well with it.

I'm SO HAPPY to have found this...I don't have excel and didn't want to pay for office ;)

I played around with it last night and had no problems. Was able to load frd and zma, adjust off-sets and acoustic centers for view in the system tab window, import overlay etc etc. No problems. I have not yet used it to design filters however.
I can see it's going to make my system designing so much easier. Thanks dlr!!

Thanks for noting this. I don't know why I don't get notifications on posts as I should.

I've corrected it. Extension is htm, not html. I think I must have changed it at some point, didn't recall it being listed here. At one time the "standard" was to have the 3-digit extension htm, but I think that's been tossed out which favor back in for html.
