DIY Speaker Project PAD

hey now

im trying to figure out how the hell im gonna incorporate my subwoofer into my system. the only thing i can think of right now is either use my aurex (toshiba) pre amp and run it to a power amp with outputs so i can daisy chain the power amp to the sub amp or use an avr and run pre out to a power amp and sub out to a sub plate amp. im more headed in that direction because i hear damn good things about yamaha's 2500 amp (i know its a pro amp but a guy i know runs it and loves it) i even thought about running 2 of those amps because im gonna be running 2 subs placed right under my sb woofer and morel tweeter speaker if i use a avr- one for the dual subs and one for the mains.

im so sick of audiophile stuff. none of the "audiophile" grade stuff does what i want. i got to the point where i said "Screw it" and was gonna run a dayton apa150 for my mains and on the outs on that run it to a plate amp.

im at the verge of getting frustated and i dont wanna get all riled up over this

I've heard nothing but good from people that use Crown's XLS Drivecore series for subs, and even for mains http://www.musiciansfriend.com/pro-audi ... c=3WWRWXGP

Might be a cost effective way to run your sub using your preamp. The Crown also has it's own crossover.

What sub are you going to be using? I think the boys at Meniscus can get plate amps for sub use as well if you're going to be doing a sub build.

as of right now, im pretty much set on the behringer dcx2496. one of the amps will get a signal from the behringer dcx2496 that is full range & untouched. no crossover, no eq settings nothing, just passed through from the behringer to the amp for my mains. as of right now im looking at a dayton apa150 or a yamaha 2500. the subwoofer amp will get a signal from the behringer that has whatever slope and parametric eq settings work best with it. that amp is gonna be something along the pro line so that way if i decide i want new speakers i can just build a new set and not have to worry about if im gonna be able to integrate the speakers with my subs.

so i figure im good to go with that. im sure ill change my mind 500 times

I think thats a good call--the thing about having ultra flexible electronic XO's is that a) you get all that passive crap out of the signals way and 2) you have just bought yourself a heap of future flexibility that in the long run allows you to make significant changes as in XO points, configurations and even speakers w/o costing an arm and a leg. You'll learn a ton in the process as well. Good call and I wouldn't sweat running pro amps one iota--unless the fan noise blows you out of your listening room. Lot of high end DIY'ers run pro gear. Why? Cuz often it is cheaper, more reliable, and sounds more like the real thing than some botique megabuck product that has reviewers drooling but when pushed even a little hard runs home to mommy in a teary meltdown.
