Statement/Mini Statement enclosure question

Hi all!

On Curt's and Jim's website, there is a side bar concerning differences with the newer unshielded woofers. The Statements and their little brothers were designed with the shielded versions.

The main point of the side bar is that, although, the new woofers will work in the same enclosure, they might be better optimized in different size (smaller by 20%) enclosure.

Are there any new enclosure plans available?

Thanks

Simon, are you considering these for a build or are you definitely going to build them? If you're going to build them, I'd LOVE to hear them!!! Are you in the west MI area??

I can PM Jim Holtz to ask your question, but I didn't think the unshielded driver warranted a redesign of the cabinets.

Hi Simon,

The new and older RS series drivers are very close and do not require a cabinet redesign. Open back mid tunnel designs are hard to redesign the cabinets from the original design due to the fact that the width and depth of the cabinet need to be very close to the original.

You might also look at The Finalists. They are a smaller monitor design with close to the full sized Statements performance. Very close, unless you are looking for extremely high SPL capability.

I have been looking at the Finalists too. I have 2 subs to handle the low frequencies. That's why I was leaning more toward the Minis. The smaller size is also a better fit.

Detail, accuracy, soundstage and imaging are more important than SPL.

The music I listen to is filled with dynamics, intricacy, complexity, mood changes, intensity and it can be dense. With both acoustic and electronic instruments.

I listen to progressive music like: King Crimson, Thinking Plague, PFM, Deus ex Machina, early Genesis, Camel, etc. Fusion like: Mahavishnu Orchestra, Return to Forever, Panzerballett, Weather Report, etc. And modern and avante-garde classical in most forms, chamber and symphonic.

So, the speakers have to be able to resolve quite a bit of information going on. If you think the Finalists are suitable, I can reevaluate my decision.

I am definitely going to build something. I'm still deciding, and weighing the options.

I live in the Los Angeles area.
